East Brighton Trust Launches grant fund

February 2008

The Trust has just launched its 2008 grant fund and hopes to benefit as many local East Brighton groups as possible. Information on the grant fund is available now in the February New Deal News magazine, recently delivered to every home in the area. Lantern festival lights up more of East Brighton

The East Brighton lantern festival which brightens up Whitehawk over Christmas and New Year is spreading its festive cheer to other parts of East Brighton this winter. Hundreds of willow and tissue paper lanterns, strung in clusters from lampposts and trees, have become a traditional sight in Whitehawk. But this year the lanterns are also adding a festive glow to community venues in Moulsecoomb, thanks to additional funding from ebndc (East Brighton New Deal for Communities - formally eb4U).

Motivating the unemployed

East Brighton-based training garage Motorvation has received a £70,000 commission from ebndc (East Brighton New Deal for Communities - formally eb4U) to expand its work helping young people escape from long-term unemployment.

  Boost for future of Whitehawk nursery

December 2007

A popular nursery providing low-cost childcare in Whitehawk has been given a £17,500 boost to help secure its future.

PACES, which offers full day care for children aged from three months to 11 years, will use the money to buy IT equipment and specialised training in fundraising. The grant has been allocated from regeneration money for the area by ebndc (East Brighton New Deal for Communities - formerly eb4u) which has already provided £200,000 of funding for the nursery since it began in 2002.

Healthy Living Centre design wins top industry award


The Healthy Living Centre's androgynous figure (below) designed by East Communications has won a prestigious silver accolade in the Chartered Institute of Public Relations regional PRide Awards.

East Communication's design represents over 30 of the centre's services and activities - from mental health support to a substance misuse project - and the connections between them.

Funding of almost £1 million safeguards flagship Healthy Living Centre

Brighton and Hove City Teaching Primary Care Trust (PCT) has approved £960,000 of funding over the next three years. This will support the centre set up in 2003 with ebndc funding, whose services were used by more than 6,000 local residents during the last 12 months alone.

Grant for Golden Oldies                                 

A group of Golden Oldies will be fit and active after their gentle exercise class was one of 15 local initiatives to benefit from ebndc community grants totalling £25,500.
