This New Deal for Communities (NDC) theme develops the skills of local people, supporting local business start-ups, self-employment and providing the childcare and support needed to help people back into work.
A wind-turbine was installed at our new Westergate Business Centre in Moulsecoomb. The business centre provides 9 well-designed and environmentally-friendly light industrial units and 10 offices. The NDC has assisted in the development of the First Footings pre-apprenticeship
construction training centre run by City College in Wilson Avenue. 13 out of the first 30 trainees on the course were local residents.
ebbs (East Brighton Business Support) provides support, advice and grants to residents to set up and develop their business ideas. Last year, this led to 12 new local businesses being established and 11 residents moving from unemployment to self-employment. ebbs also brokered in over £20,000 of in-kind support into the NDC area from 15 different businesses.
