A Better Place To Live

This New Deal for Communities (NDC) theme improves the streets, open spaces and buildings to increase a sense of pride, and improve the services delivered in the area to meet the needs of the local people. The first phase of blocking alleyways in Whitehawk was completed in spring this year. In a follow up survey, 76% of people interviewed felt that safety had been improved in the area as a result.

The refurbishment of St George's Hall in Moulsecoomb finished this year, and included a new heating system, a fantastic kitchen, decent toilets and additional storage space. More than 100 people packed out the hall to celebrate its re-launch as a community venue.

The Environmental Improvement Fund is managed by the Environment Steering Group and approved funding for 19 projects this year. A total of £28,385 was awarded for environmental improvements that will bring a lasting benefit to the area.
