At the start of the New Deal for Communities (NDC) programme, local residents and organisations working in partnership identified six key themes they wanted to tackle in the East Brighton area. Resident majority Board and Steering Groups were then formed to assess, appraise and monitor each of the NDC funded projects that fit under the six themes.

Our key strategic themes are:
East Brighton: Taking Control
Taking Control is the overall approach for the NDC that ensures the local community has the support and information to work with service providers to improve their neighbourhood. The key elements to 'Taking Control' are:
Equalities (click here for more information) - making fair and open activities and processes that anyone can access if they want to.
Community Development - supporting local people to identify what they want to do, then get together to achieve it.
Communications - making sure that people know what we are doing and can take part in the regeneration of the area.
Neighbourhood Management - local residents working with people who provide services to improve standards and respond to local needs and issues.
A Better Educated East Brighton
This theme focuses on increasing the educational attainment, attendance and aspirations of young people and gives adults the opportunities to improve their skills.
East Brighton: A Better Place To Live
This theme improves the streets, open spaces and buildings to increase a sense of pride, and improves the services delivered in the area to meet the needs of local people.
An Enterprising East Brighton
This theme develops the skills of local people, supporting local business start-ups, self-employment and providing the childcare and support needed to help people back into work.
A Safer East Brighton
This theme has projects that reduce the levels of crime, anti-social behaviour and the fear of crime in the local area.
A Fit & Healthy East Brighton
This theme promotes health and fitness in the community and provides services to support those most in need.
